New York, NY [March 31, 2010] – The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by Founding Sponsor American Express, today announced the line-up for the Tribeca Talks Panel Series, including “Tribeca Talks: After the Movie,” “Tribeca Talks: Industry” and “Tribeca Talks: Pen to Paper, hosted by Barnes & Noble.”  The program will explore issues and trends in society and the entertainment industry with some of the biggest names in film, literature and media, including James Franco, Lorne Michaels, Joan Rivers, Edward Burns, Academy Award®-winning director Alex Gibney, André Leon Talley and Ice Cube, among others. The 2010 TFF will take place from April 21 to May 2, 2010 in lower Manhattan.

Featuring in-depth discussions and audience Q&A with directors and film participants following select screenings of TFF films, “Tribeca Talks: After the Movie” will provide an opportunity for dialogue between filmmakers, industry leaders and audiences on a variety of fascinating subjects.  The series, which is open to the public, will include three special premiere and panel events for new documentaries, including the New York premieres of director/actor James Franco’s Saturday Night and of The Lottery, directed by Madeleine Sackler, and the world premiere of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston, directed by Whitney Sudler-Smith. In addition, the program, in conjunction with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, will present the 10th anniversary screening and panel discussion of Memento, Christopher Nolan’s psychological thriller.  “Tribeca Talks: Industry” is a series of free discussions designed for industry professionals that explore the business and technology sides of filmmaking, while “Tribeca Talks: Pen to Paper,” hosted by Barnes & Noble, offers free panels focusing on the artistic process of screenwriting. 

“Each year we look for new ways to further engage audiences in the array of provocative themes covered in Festival films and in topics affecting our industry,” said Nancy Schafer, Executive Director of TFF.  “The Tribeca Talks series offers the public and industry insiders alike the opportunity to explore these subjects with some of the biggest names in film, literature and media.”

“Tribeca Talks: After the Movie” will include:
·         The New York premiere of Saturday Night, the new documentary from actor/director James Franco that offers an intimate look at the making of one hilarious episode of SNL, followed by a conversation with James Franco, Lorne Michaels, and cast members from SNL. 
·         The New York premiere of The Lottery, a documentary that interlaces four families’ stories in the months leading up to the high-stakes, low-odds lottery for one of the most successful schools in New York.  Following the premiere, director Madeleine Sackler, Joel Klein, chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, former Chair of the Education Committee on the City Council and Harlem Success Academy leader Eva Moskowitz and others will discuss the highly politicized battle over the future of American education.
·         The world premiere of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston, a portrait of the rise and fall of America's first celebrity designer—Halston—the man who was synonymous with fashion in the 1970s, and became the emperor of NYC nightlife, featuring a subsequent panel with director Whitney Sudler-Smith, André Leon Talley, model Pat Cleveland and designer Ralph Rucci.
·         Climate of Change, a special event exclusively for American Express cardholders, featuring a documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Brian Hill (Songbirds) focusing on the efforts of everyday people all over the world who are making a difference in the fight against global warming, followed by a conversation with Brian Hill. 
  • Memento, presented by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation: a screening of Christopher Nolan's striking thriller in celebration of the film’s 10th anniversary, followed by a discussion with actors Guy Pearce and Joe Pantoliano, writer Jonathan NolanDr. Suzanne Corkin, Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at MIT, and Dr. William Hirst, Professor of Psychology at The New School for Social Research. Moderated by NPR’s Robert Krulwich.
  • Budrus, an action-filled documentary about a Palestinian family man who unites rival parties Fatah and Hamas, Western activists, and even groups of progressive Israelis in a nonviolent movement to save his village from being destroyed.  Award-winning director/producer Julia Bacha will join film subject Ayed Morrar, producers Ronit Avni and Rula Salameh for a subsequent panel discussion.
  • The Other City, an eye-opening documentary about the unheard stories behind the growing HIV positive community in Washington D.C., followed by a conversation with director Susan Koch, producer Sheila Johnson, writer/coproducer Jose Antonio Vargas, United States Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin, amfAR chairman Kenneth ColeWashington Post columnist Colbert King, a subject from the film Ron Daniels, and Jehmu Greene, president of the Women’s Media Center and former president of Rock the Vote.
  • Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, a profile that exposes the fascinating combination of vulnerability and irreverence behind the queen of American comedy, featuring a conversation following the film with Joan Rivers and directors Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg. Moderated by Rex Reedauthor, journalist and the film critic of the New York Observer.   
  • Earth Made of Glass, featuring a discussion with director Deborah Scranton after the screening of the inspiring and uplifting parallel stories of Rwandan president Paul Kagame and genocide survivor Jean-Pierre Sagahutu.
  • The Arbor, the fascinating true story of troubled British playwright Andrea Dunbar and her tumultuous relationship with her daughter, from artist-cum-director Clio Barnard, who will join executive producer and co-director of Artangel, London Michael Morris, producer Tracy O’Riordan and actress Manjinder Virk for a conversation after the screening.
·         Freakonomics, a dynamic adaptation of the smash bestseller Freakonomics, where innovative documentary filmmakers expose the hidden side of everything—from corruption in the sumo wrestling world to the minefield of ethnicity and class conflict in the million-dollar industry of baby naming.  FESTIVAL ALSO ANNOUNCES GALA PREMIERE OF “LETTERS TO JULIET” AND SPECIAL PRESENTATION OF “MY OWN LOVE SONG"

New York, NY – March 29, 2010 – The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by American Express, the Founding Sponsor of the Festival, today announced that “Freakonomics” will serve as the closing gala of the Festival on April 30.  The Festival will also host a gala premiere of “Letters to Juliet” on April 25 and a special presentation of “My Own Love Song.”  The 9th annual Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) will run from April 21 to May 2, 2010.

From the innovative documentary filmmakers behind “Super Size Me,” "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room," “Jesus Camp,” “Why We Fight” and “The King of Kong,” comes "Freakonomics," a dynamic adaptation of the smash bestselling book, “Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Exposes the Hidden Side of Everything" by Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. The groundbreaking book spent more than 2 years on the New York Times Bestseller list and is now one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. Directed by Academy Award® winner Alex Gibney, Academy Award® nominee Morgan Spurlock, Academy Award® nominees Rachel Grady and Heidi EwingEugene Jarecki and Seth Gordon, "Freakonomics" will have its world premiere at TFF as the closing gala of the Festival and is produced by Chad Troutwine  ("Paris Je T'aime") and Green Film Company's Chris Romano and Dan O'Meara ("By the People: the Election of Barack Obama") with financial services by Cold Fusion Media.

“Letters to Juliet,” a Summit Entertainment (“The Hurt Locker,” “Twilight Saga”) release, will have its world premiere at the Festival.  Directed by Gary Winick, it is a charming romance starring Amanda Seyfried (“Mamma Mia!”) and Vanessa Redgrave.  Seyfried plays a young American who travels to Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet, where she joins a group of volunteers who respond to strangers’ letters to Juliet seeking love advice.  After answering one letter dated 1957, she inspires its author (Redgrave) to travel to Italy in search of her long-lost love, setting off a chain of events that will bring them both a love unlike anything they ever imagined.
 
“My Own Love Song” – the first English language film from Olivier Dahan, director of the two-time Academy Award® winning film “La Vie En Rose” – will have its international premiere as a special presentation at the Festival.  Written and directed by Dahan, the film is an unassuming story about an ex-singer that blossoms into a whimsical road movie.  Jane and Joey (Academy Award® winners Renée Zellweger and Forest Whitaker) couldn’t be more different. She¹s a take-charge kind of woman who never needs help from anyone, despite being paralyzed from the legs down, and he's a lovable oddball. When Joey convinces Jane to embark on a cross-country road trip, they stumble into one hilarious disaster after another in a heartwarming tale of redemption. With supporting performances by Madeline Zima, Nick Nolte and Elias Koteas, “My Own Love Song” also features original music by Bob Dylan.

New York, NY [March 15, 2010] – The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by American Express, the Founding Sponsor of the Festival, today announced its remaining out-of-competition feature film selections in the Encounters, Discovery, Cinemania and Spotlight sections. The Festival will take place from April 21 to May 2, 2010 in lower Manhattan, offering audiences film screenings, conversations and an array of free community events. As previously announced, the 2010 film selection encompasses feature films from 38 different countries, including 45 World Premieres, 7 International Premieres, 14 North American Premieres, 6 U.S. Premieres and 12 New York Premieres.

The Encounters section is comprised of 14 films that highlight works by a wide range of established talent and feature recognizable subjects.  Eleven of the 14 films are world premieres, including new works by Academy Award®-w--inning filmmakers Alex Gibney and Chuck Workman, as well as Academy Award-nominated Dana Adam Shapiro, and featured actors include Ellen Barkin, Tilda Swinton, Liev Schreiber, Helen Hunt, Brian Dennehy, Eddie Izzard, Kim Cattrall, Rashida Jones and Melissa Leo.

The Discovery section presents 17 films by new talent appealing to a range of tastes. Its documentaries showcase everything from the North Pole and Congressional redistricting to a comedy tour of the Middle East. Its narrative films feature performances by stars including Amy Sedaris, Jesse McCartney and Jay Baruchel, and the writing/directing debut of Omar Rodriguez Lopez of the Grammy-winning rock band Mars Volta. Cinemania, the section formerly known as Midnight, features new work by Hong Kong filmmaker Ho-Cheung Pang, the outrageous teen comedy Spork, and a new film by Kieran and John Carney, director of Oscar® winner Once.

The eight films in this year’s Spotlight section are all highly anticipated features. They include performances by Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Robert Duvall, Colin Farrell, Amanda Peet and Rebecca Hall. The selection contains films from acclaimed filmmakers, including Academy Award® winners Aaron Schneider and Neil Jordan, and will be available to TFF audiences before they hit theaters.

This year for the first time, audiences will have the opportunity to experience the Festival from their homes. Through video-on-demand, more than 40 million households will have access to 12 feature length films acquired by the recently launched Tribeca Film. Seven of the 12 films are part of the 2010 TFF line-up and will be screened day-and-date with the Festival; they include five in the sections unveiled today.
