From the team behind the
Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Cinemas Presents: Doc Series is an exciting new series of interesting, innovative and thought-provoking documentary films. Join us every other Monday night at TribecaCinemas for another must-see film. Fims being featured this month are:
  6.14.10 21 Below
21 Below is the story of a young woman going home to face family wounds that she had hoped to escape. Sharon is pregnant with her first child when she learns that the 14-month-old daughter of her younger sister is dying from a rare genetic disease. It's then she realizes that she can't start a family of her own until she tries to help the family she's left behind.
  6.28.10 Out in the Silence
When popular 16-year-old jock CJ is brutally attacked for coming out at his small town high school, his mother reaches out for help to the only openly gay man she knows of—native son and filmmaker Joe Wilson—whose same-sex wedding announcement she saw in the local paper. Returning home with camera in hand, Wilson documents the harrowing but ultimately successful battle of CJ and his mom with recalcitrant school authorities, the efforts of a lesbian couple to restore an historic theater over the objections of a local family values activist, and his unexpected friendship with an Evangelical preacher. As the focus widens to include the entire community, Out in the Silence provides a fascinating and moving commentary on America's culture war.

June 15th & 29th: THE KOREAN CULTURAL SERVICE SCREENINGS
Tribeca Cinemas is pleased to announce the Korean Cultural Service screening series. Just in time for summer, the Korean Cultural Service presents its third series of films: big, fat, epic action movies – perfect blockbusters that’ll air condition your brain. This Bi-Monthly screening series continues with these great films:
TUESDAY, JUNE 15 @ 7pm
THE SWORD WITH NO NAME
(2009, 124 minutes, New York Premiere)
Holy blockbusters! A big hit at the box office last year, SWORD is the epitome of posh, luscious, decadent period filmmaking. Based on the real life Empress Myeongseong, it tells her story through the eyes of a bounty hunter who becomes her bodyguard (Cho Seung-Woo, now doing his mandatory military service). She tries to stand up to Russian and Japanese intervention in 19th Century Korea and the results are a series of luxurious, CGI-enhanced action scenes alternating with carefully calibrated and eye-meltingly colorful scenes of court life, making this movie feel like an unholy mix of Merchant-Ivory and THE MATRIX.
TUESDAY, JUNE 29 @ 7pm
JSA: JOINT SECURITY AREA
 (2000, 110 minutes)
A special screening to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War, Park Chan-Wook¹s JSA: JOINT SECURITY AREA is one of the most moving Korean films ever made, and the hit that put Director Park (OLDBOY) on the map. Starring Song Kang-Ho (THE HOST), Lee Young-Ae (LADY VENGEANCE), Lee Byung-Hun (GI JOE; THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD) and Shin Ha-Kyun (SAVE THE GREEN PLANET, THIRST) it is the APOCALYPSE NOW of the Korean War, a shimmering, hyper-real epic that charts the spiritual fallout of international politics.

Admission is free, and is based on a first come first serve basis. For questions call 212-759-9550.
